Lots of terms are tossed around on web sites and in newsgroups (and perhaps occasionally this site's own news postings) that can be kind of confusing for the unitiated, the casual Anime fan, and sometimes even declared otaku who just don't have a handy reference to what all this stuff means. So, I've taken it upon myself to, as time allows, try to take note of some of the various terms used in discussing Anime, and providing something of a basic guide. Let me know if there's a term you'd like explained, something you'd like to correct me on, or simply know of some terms you think should be listed here.

• Shounen: Term for what is generally known as "Guy" Anime.

• Shoujo: Term for what is generally known as "Girl" Anime.

• Doujinshi: Amateur comic based on someone else's work.
